Māori Qualifications Services update

The Māori Qualifications Services (MQS) has been making good progress since the last publication of Ao Kawe Kupu, says MQS Manager Tania Saggers.

New qualifications and unit standards in Field Māori have recently been registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). Among them are Marae Catering, launched in July this year, Reo Māori Media, and Te Mātauranga Māori me te Whakangungu.

There are now 667 unit standards available in Field Māori and 26 qualifications as at July 31, 2005.

Find out more about these qualifications.

A new brochure (right), describing services provided by MQS, was printed in July this year. The publication is a first for NZQA as it features both Māori and English text in the one brochure. For more information on ordering brochures go to page 11.

Future MQS developments will include a CD-rom featuring teaching resources currently available in Field Māori on the NQF. More information will be available in the next edition of Ao Kawe Kupu.

Also available are assessment materials in Hauora Māori and Pūtaiao, recently published on the NZQA website at www.nzqa.govt.nz/for-māori/resources.

For more information on upcoming developments in Field Māori go to the on-line newsletter Te huarahi ki te ao tohu at www.nzqa.govt.nz/for-māori/publications/huarahi. Open the Ngā kaimahi page and view the Māori Qualification Development Facilitators’ current projects.
