Assessment and Examination Rules and Procedures for Secondary Schools - 2010
6.1.1 Examination Centres
- Examinations will be held at such times and places as determined by NZQA.
- Examination Centres will be established annually by reference to candidate entry numbers and distance between schools.
Special Examination Centres
- Where
- no school is available to be an examination centre
or
- NZQA believes that in the circumstances it would be prudent to have a special examination centre
NZQA may establish a special examination centre. Such cases usually relate to candidates who are living in remote areas and/or studying through The Correspondence School.
- no school is available to be an examination centre
- Applications to establish a special examination centre must be made by a candidate or Principal's Nominee before 1 August each year on the approved form, which is available from The Correspondence School or NZQA.
- Applicants are responsible for identifying:
- a suitable examination venue, which allows candidates to work uninterrupted for the duration of each examination and be free from noise and other distractions
- a suitable supervisor for each examination who must:
- be aware how examinations are conducted
- be able to ensure that examination security is maintained
- have no direct family or current teaching/instructional relationship with any candidate.

- Any costs associated with the use of the venue are the responsibility of the applicant.
- Candidates must also enter through a school and pay all examination entry fees.
- In all cases the published examination timetable will apply.
