The resources below contains examples of candidate work submitted in 2008 for verification of assessment for the Visual Arts Achievement Standard 90020 Generate and develop ideas in making art works. The purpose of this resource is to assist art teachers in preparing teaching programmes and their candidates for assessment in 2008.

Level 2
This resource contains examples of candidate work submitted in 2008 for verification of assessment for the Visual Arts Achievement Standards 90235, 90479, 90480, 90481, 90482 Produce a body of work within (design, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture) to show understanding of art-making methods and ideas. The purpose of this resource is to assist art teachers to prepare teaching programmes and their students for assessment. The Assessment Reports for these standards for 2008 are available on the NZQA website. They provide important information for Visual Arts teachers using these standards.
Examples from a number of submissions have been selected for each field to reflect the wide range of school Visual Arts programmes providing students with opportunities to succeed. The submissions selected contain examples of work that have gained Achievement, Achievement with Merit and Achievement with Excellence.

Level 3
This resource contains examples of candidate work submitted in 2008 for assessment for the Visual Arts Achievement Standards 90517, 90667, 90668, 90669, 90670 Produce original work within (design, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture) to show extensive knowledge of art-making methods and ideas.
The purpose of this resource is to provide Visual Arts teachers with specific examples that demonstrated the levels of achievement of each standard, and to illustrate some of the different ways in which the standard may be met. The portfolios selected contain examples of work that have gained Achievement, Achievement with Merit and Achievement with Excellence.
The resource should be used in conjunction with the relevant Assessment Reports for these standards, which provide important information for Visual Arts teachers using these standards.
Appropriating candidates' ideas and decisions directly from these exemplars is likely to reduce opportunities for other candidates to produce an original body of work, as required by the standard.
