Examination Update

21 November, 2008

The first week of NCEA and NZ Scholarship exams has covered 132 NCEA standards and nine Scholarship subjects, sat in more than 40 examination sessions.

Completed exam papers are already being delivered to markers including the largest exam to be held this year, level 1 English, on Tuesday, which involved more than 46,000 candidates.

Alternative arrangements were quickly put in place in an effort to avoid disruption to candidates affected by the accident which blocked Auckland 's southern motorway this morning (Friday) for several hours.

NZQA provided information to radio stations on alternative examination venues, on either side of the blockage, and provision was made to supply additional examination papers to schools in the area. No issues have been reported as a result of the accident.

Students who miss an NCEA examination through circumstances beyond their control may apply for compassionate consideration (this does not apply where candidates leave home late or miss an exam because they mis-read the examination timetable). Scholarship candidates are not eligible to apply for compassionate consideration.

Exams run until Wednesday, December 3.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Scholarship Biology will be held in the morning and Scholarship Statistics and Modelling in the afternoon.
