Strategic Purpose Statement
To equip students for a wide range of computer network support/ administration and related roles, including the knowledge and skills required to assemble computers, install and configure hardware and software, install and maintain a computer local area network, implement, manage and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows based operating systems, wireless networks and virtual machines including an introduction to the GNU/Linux operating system.
Graduate profile
Graduates will be able to: assemble, install, and configure computers; configure
multiple operating systems; repair and maintain computers; provide technical advice on computer hardware and peripherals; optimise computers for maximum performance, reliability and security; set up a personal computer in a local area network; demonstrate and apply introductory knowledge of open computer operating systems and intermediate knowledge of computer network engineering principles; demonstrate knowledge of and install wireless local area computer networks: and administer a local area computer network.
They will also be able to undertake the external vendor certification examinations, and will have the knowledge and skills required for a wide range of computer network support/administration and related roles, or for advancement to further study at a higher level.
Education pathways
The Diploma equips students for study of computer systems at Level 6 and beyond.
Entry Requirements
No formal IT qualificatlons are required for entry, but applicants must be 17 years of age or older, have basic computer skills and genuine enthusiasm for computer work, and must attend a pre-entrance interview and/or take a pre-entry aptitude test.
Applicants for whom English is not their first language must have a minimum IELTS
score Of 5.5, or equivalent evidence of English language proficiency.

Level

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
