The Research Team NZQA has an in-house research team of nine researchers representing seven different nationalities. "We have research collaborations with other government sector organisations, such as the Ministry of Education and Tertiary Education Commission, as well as with the wider education research institutions including private research organisations and university research groups," says manager James Chal. "We are very keen to develop further collaborations with both funders and the researchers in areas relevant to the performance of NZQA's functions."
The research team has academic and research backgrounds, spanning areas as diverse as Education, Psychology, Linguistics, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Health Management, Mathematics and Statistics. The team provides research and analyses which are used for decision-making and as input to policy development. Among its other research is work being conducted to support the NCEA improvements programme as well as analyses and reporting of annual statistics on both secondary and tertiary qualifications. The joint research collaborations with the government sector includes the Transition to Tertiary programme with the Ministry of Education. Other areas in its field include research to support the Tertiary Reforms, and ongoing support for the Te Rautaki Maori (NZQA's Maori Strategy).
