| Chief Executive's foreword | |||
There's a lot of work occurring with qualifications and how they are offered by the education sector. External evaluation and review, as part of the new quality assurance framework applies from this month for Private Training Establishments; we are about to trial draft level 1 standards as part of the work on the alignment of standards with the new NZ Curriculum; and a targeted review of level 1-6 certificates and diplomas (non-NCEA) will be going out for consultation shortly. See the articles in this edition of QA News. This is all about ensuring learners can earn appropriate qualifications to succeed in what they choose to do. We all want students to leave school with meaningful qualifications, and for these to be recognised by employers. Those who do further study or training should also have the assurance that the time and money they invest will be rewarded with a qualification which will help them contribute to their own future and that of New Zealand. Within NZQA we're looking at how we can improve our interactions with clients and be cost-effective. We have a new Client Charter which spells out what service commitments people can expect when contacting us. Likewise, we have recently opened an office in Auckland - to better respond to clients north of Taupo. It will save us travel costs too! We are fast approaching the NCEA and Scholarship examination season. I wish all students, their teachers and families well in their preparations. We will play our part to ensure a smooth examination season
