Net results

More than half of all Bursaries and School Certificate candidates (around 44,000 students) used the NZQA website to access their exam results this year.

It was a year of firsts and lasts in respect of internet results for candidates. Bursaries results went on-line for the first time this year and School Certificate results were on-line for the first and last time as the exam is to be replaced this year by NCEA level 1.

Statistics show a clear preference by students for using the Internet to access results. More than 8000 Bursaries students accessed their results within the first 24 hours of them going on-line and more than 10,000 students used the internet service in the first eight hours of results being available.

NZQA worked hard to get results on-line as soon as possible this year and were able to have both Bursaries and School Certificate results available earlier than predicted.

Results were also available via an 0900 number, but use of this service declined as students took advantage of the electronic service.

The NZQA website is one of the most looked-at sites in the country. In January this year there were almost 5 million hits on www.nzqa.govt.nz.

Internet results services are hosted by NZQA using software developed by NZQA staff. Communications manager Bill Lennox says the system has worked perfectly to date and has had no trouble coping with the heavy loads.

"We have shown that we have the capacity to deliver NCEA results on-line at the of 2002."
