Late News Quality Assured The Qualifications Authority’s Quality Assurance unit has a new way of working. Following a 1998 review of procedures, providers seeking registrations, approvals and accreditations will notice a change. Exam results out early again Results from 1998 national examinations were released well ahead of the Authority’s target date. This was despite the fact that the 1998 examinations started a week later than in previous years. Reo Māori Schools Trial All teachers who took part in the 1998 Reo Māori trials plan to use unit standards again in 1999. As a result of the trial, revised Reo Māori unit standards have been registered and new assessment resources have been published. From the ITOs Moving on Projects simplify workplace assessment The Qualifications Authority is working with Skill New Zealand on three projects that should make the Framework more user friendly in the workplace. The Authority will report on all projects in May 1999. From the media National Diplomas on the up The complete works There are now more than 550 National Certificates and National Diplomas on the Framework. For the first time, QA News prints a summary of the full list (as at 1 January 1999). Qualifications that Work Raising the profile of National Certificates and National Diplomas. A new video and print resource is due for release by the Qualifications Authority. Called Qualifications that Work, the package highlights the impact of the National Qualifications Framework and the uptake of national qualifications. What is a private training establishment? Legislation dealing with education and training refers to three types of provider: schools, institutions and private training establishments. Schools are schools; universities, polytechnics, wananga and colleges of education are institutions; but what is a private training establishment? Bursaries Top Scholars Announced New Zealand’s top academic achievers for 1998 will be honoured in a function at Government House in April. Thirty-five Top Scholars from the 1998 University Bursaries examinations were named by the Qualifications Authority following the release of results in January. In Moderation Assessment Review A pilot project looks at how to streamline and individualise moderation for the Qualifications Framework and reduce compliance costs.
